Michael (Mike) Schweitzer, MD, MBA, President SH+ LLC
International speaker and author on value-based health care. Results-oriented physician executive with extensive leadership, management, clinical and consulting experiences. Expertise in clinical and organizational transformation processes involving performance improvement, quality, team leadership & collaboration development, bundled payments, full risk contract programs, co-management, pay-for-performance, physician-hospital alignment incentives, perioperative surgical home, population health, and strategic planning for Clinically Integrated Networks & ACO’s. Proven ability to lead and manage organizational interfaces while reducing silo barriers with clinicians, hospital and clinic operations, healthcare systems, and senior leadership. Extensive experience with hospitals, health systems, physician practices, supply chain optimization, utilization management, risk management, Joint Commission surveys, contracting strategies, and compliance with state and federal government agencies. Strong focus on reducing variation through high reliability evidence guided principles.

• President SH+ LLC, a healthcare consulting company (December 2019 - present)
· 2023-2025 Contract with Crouse Health, Inc., Syracuse, NY. Anesthesia contract assessment, clinical leader survey, support for hospital leadership to interview three anesthesia groups, renegotiation of contract, and follow-up.
· 2021-2024 Direct contract with a Tallahassee Memorial Healthcare (TMH), a 750-bed community Florida hospital and healthcare system to improve their Quality and Performance Improvement. One consistent focus of the four year engagement was improving external quality ratings such as the CMS Hospital Star Ratings. The Star ratings include measures of Mortality, Safety of Care, Readmissions, Patient Experience, and Timely and Effective Care. Initiatives included in part – establishing a performance excellence culture, physician leadership development, cascade a Lean Six Sigma Daily Performance Management System from front line care givers to leaders, implementation of a multidisciplinary Clinical Leadership Council with initially nine evidence-based clinical pathway, develop Nursing Practice Council, a Critical Care Committee, Blood Utilization Committee, and recommendations for medical staff Bylaws and Rules & Regulations revisions. In addition, developed a shift from departmental peer review to multidisciplinary peer review committee, preceptor practices, coordinated with and updated TMH Board and executive leadership, 1:1 CMO regular coaching sessions, and recommendations for physician quality performance incentives for their existing co-management agreements, physician employment contracts, and medical director contracts.
· 2021-2023 Member of the inaugural American Society of Anesthesiologists Healthcare Executives Workgroup and Be the Solution Workgroup which developed the Health Care Executive Member Series Toolkit.
· 2020-2021 Expert Witness Testimony as subcontractor through MBO Partners, Inc to Premier Inc. in a lawsuit representing a large southeastern US hospital system against a major health plan for failure to comply with the legal terms of the contract specifically regarding inappropriate medical necessity denials - both pre-approval and retroactive denials for outpatient procedures and specialty pharmacy drugs for oncology infusions. The health plan settled two days before trial with the health system and the details are protected by a non-disclosure agreement.
· 2019-2021 Sub-contractor for Global Clinical Consulting providing clinical and revenue cycle claims management advice to attorneys at Pachulski, Stang, Ziehl, & Jones, San Francisco, in legal disputes to claw back disputed payments totaling hundreds of millions of dollars with major health plans regarding inappropriate denials of hospital claims for a Los Angeles health system. In addition, provided advice regarding adjudication of the CMS Medicare Advantage Hierarchical Condition Category (HCC) risk adjustment model for capitated payments between a Los Angeles not-for-profit hospital and several large physician groups for ‘per member per month’ (PMPM) shared risk contracts. Engagement completed successfully for the hospitals.
• Vice President/Chief Population Health, Verity Health System 2018-2019 with five hospitals, employed physician groups & two skilled nursing facilities responsible for all health plan contracts and Value-Based Care
• Chief Medical Officer for Population Health 2016-2018 for Premier Inc. (NASDAQ: PINC) leading Value-based Medicare alternative payment models. Premier is a leading technology-driven healthcare improvement company, providing solutions to two-thirds of all healthcare providers in the U.S.
• Vice President, Healthcare Delivery System Transformation for Vizient Southeast with 75 Hospitals & Medical Staffs 2013-2016
• Chief Medical Officer for Baptist Health System (owned by Vanguard then Tenet) with five hospitals in south Texas 2011-2013
• Chief Medical Officer for two hospitals in Montana owned by Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth Health System - a five state 11 hospital system 2008-2011

Dr. Mike Schweitzer was elected to serve in many state and national physician leadership roles over the years such as President of both the Montana Medical Association and Montana Society of Anesthesiologists. Mike served on several physician boards including the American Society of Anesthesiologists, InterWest Health PPO, Rocky Mountain Health Network, and Texas Surgical Quality Collaborative. Dr. Schweitzer has consulted onsite at over two hundred hospitals.
